Sarries put to the sword by Rampant Saints
26th November 2011
After the disappointment of losing at home to Scarlets in the Heineken Cup the previous week, the Saints put in an awesome display to consign Saracens to only their second defeat of the Aviva premiership, and thus dent the visitors hopes of maintaining the gap on the chasing pack, whilst closing the gap on unbeaten leaders Harlequins who play sunday. First half tries by Lee Dickson on his 100th appearance, followed by scores from George Pisi, and Phil Dowson from a push over try, answered with a solitary penalty from Owern Farrell to leave the game at 27-3 on half time. Whilst Saints were not as dominant in the second period, an early penalty stretched the lead before a late consolation try from Ernst Joubert closed the game at 30-8. Saints Director of Rugby Jim Mallinder would have been far more satisfied with his teams performance over the current Aviva Champions than that of the performance against Scarlets, and this would have done his credentials for the England coaching position no harm at all.
