Chelmsford and Macclesfield all square

03rd December 2011
In front of a bumper Melbourne Park crowd in excess of 2,900, Chelmsford City entertained Championship division two side Macclesfield Town. With extended highlights being shown on ITV, and a draw amongst the big guns for the third round at stake, Chelmsford took the lead half way through the first half when Max Cornhill finished from close range. Macclesfield clawed their way back into the game in the second half and were presented the equaliser when Stuart Searle failed to adequately deal with an incoming cross which left Tony Diagne a relatively easy chance. Max Cornhill went agonisingly close in the dying minutes of the game with a powerful header from an Aiden Palmer corner, but neither side could unlock the defence of the other and a replay on tuesday week will now be required to see whether City can continue the dream and enter the third round with the elite of football.
