About
![]() I have been extremely fortuitous that my business activities have allowed me the opportunity to travel, which has supplemented family vacations. It was only fairly recently though, I took the decision to document some of the places and sights that I had the ability to witness. This interest stimulated in turn the pursuit of other areas of photography, specifically sport. My father (pictured in familiar pose) gave me my first SLR camera as a birthday gift, something that I really never did justice to, and after a while it remained idle, collecting dust. Having made the decision to document my travels, I purchased a Sony DCP100, and so impressed with the results (with a little software manipulation), an upgrade was almost certain. After a few trips I purchased a Canon EOS 350D, with an assortment of lenses, an excellent introduction to digital SLRs. The leap of faith was not too great and before long an EOS 5D followed, which led inevitably to an EOS 1. My interest in photography was fostered by my father, who was always looking through binoculars or a camera viewfinder. He would have been overwhelmed with the technological advances that digital has allowed, and the ability to display images on a web page, whilst pointing out that 'it wasn't the same as film'. Countless vacations were endured where the family waited for that 'just so' moment; the sun to peak from behind the clouds; or just another view of this castle or that church. The search for that 'perfect image', could prove infuriating. The results were always awaited with eager anticipation and weeks later, we were either impressed, or sometimes not quite so. However, if he were with us today, he would be staggered with the immediacy of results, no more waiting to see how those pictures turned out! It seems a little ironic that I have moved full circle, from the youth who bemoaned the hours of seemingly futile waiting, to the individual that now encumbers the next generation, still searching for that 'perfect image'! Thanks Dad. |
